Renewing the Church and blessing the city, one community at a time.
In 2015, after 25 years of ministry in traditional congregational settings, Pastor Joe Crowther began to re-imagine a fresh, yet ancient (original) expression of church...a church that is more "movement" than institution...is community-based and on a mission to bless the communities in which it is based...that desires never to own a building (or the mortgage that goes along with it)...and exists primarily for the sake of those who don't belong.
Together with the energy of a group of like-spirited persons, this vision quickly found expression as The Table.
The Table currently meets every non-first Sunday evening at Homer's Coffee House for a casual, "everyone is welcome" worship. Our first House Church meets regularly on Tuesday nights for fellowship, food and conversation, with a goal of spinning off additional House Churches soon.
“The church is not an institution forcing us to follow rules but a community inviting us to still our hunger and thirst at its table.” —Henri Nouwen
The mission of The Table is now and forever in formation. Currently and quite simply, we exist to expand the kingdom of God into the communities of Kansas City by developing a network of missional groups (house churches) that meet regularly to share their faith and bless their communities. All missional communities then meet together weekly for worship in a central location.
…that Jesus is the fullest expression of God’s love for us. If you want to know God, look to Jesus.
…that Jesus desires abundant life for all God’s children and…
…that church is not the destination but the connector to that life.
…that we are called to follow Jesus Christ and…
…that one doesn’t learn to do this in an hour on Sunday morning.
…that one cannot be a follower of Jesus by oneself and…
…that Christian community is imperative.
…that Jesus wasn’t just “making up Scripture” when he declared “Love neighbor as self” to be the greatest commandment.
…that faith becomes active in love.
…that the Gospel is intended for all persons regardless of creed (or lack of creed), race, sexual orientation, socio-economic class, level of faith or doubt…
There is a place for everyone at The Table.
...are derived from the life of Jesus and are lived out in hopes of helping form the kind of world God wants to establish.
FAITH - Nothing is more precious than our faith in God. It is what happens when we allow God to work in us to shape our hearts, spirits, thoughts and lives. (John 1.13)
SERVICE - This is what happens when we give ourselves away for the sake of others. Through service we gain our lives. (Matthew 10.39)
AUTHENTICITY - This is what happens when we become the people God created us to be. Our ultimate goal is Christlikeness. (Galatians 2.20)
COMPASSION - This is what happens when you 'love neighbor as self', when what's on God's heart gets on your heart. (Mark 12.31)
GENEROSITY - This is what happens when we live from the abundance of life which we have in Jesus, a life measured not by what is amassed but by what is shared and given away. (2 Corinthians 9.7)
A vital part of the life at The Table takes place during the week and in the midst of life. A Community Tables is much more than the typical “small group” that meets for a determined period of time around a particular task or study topic. Community Tables are groups of persons who relate to one another in Christ-like ways, …feasting, studying, praying and serving together. Participants companion one another in the quest to understand and realize abundant life in Christ as they discuss further what was experienced at worship and look for ways to extend The Table into their own communities, blessing one another and neighbors.

Each weekend The Table spreads “The Banquet”, a corporate worship experience. During this feast of the Spirit we will…:
…pray …sit before God’s Word and message …engage in fellowship …sing …listen …practice radical hospitality …celebrate the sacraments …celebrate the arts …receive testimony regarding what God is doing in and through the house churches …be empowered as those sent into the world again

If you would like to support the work of The Table, consider a monetary contribution through this secure link.
Contributions are tax-deductible. The Table is a 50/50 ministry, loving neighbor as self by using half of all donations to support those in need in our community. So know that your gifts will help sustain this ministry...but will also put food into the mouths of those who hunger, backpacks on the shoulders of school children, ramps on the homes of the physically challenged, hope into the hearts of the lonely... .
A 50/50 CONGREGATION - In an effort to take seriously Jesus' request to "love neighbor as self" The Table seeks to give have of our offerings in blessing beyond the congregation and designate monthly "missional projects" for this purpose.
October's Project: During October The Table supported Sante Fe Middle School (Olathe) and their effort to help needful students and families secure winter clothing, food and other necessary items.
